Abstract
This study focused on comparing radiographic and clinical parameters alongside peri-implant sulcular fluid (PISF) prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) levels among patients with peri-implant mucositis (PiM), peri-implantitis, and healthy peri-implant tissues. Results showed that patients with peri-implantitis exhibited significantly higher modified plaque index, bleeding index, probing depth, crestal bone loss, PISF volume, and PGE2 concentrations compared to those with PiM and healthy controls, with PiM patients also showing elevated levels relative to controls. A significant correlation was found between probing depth and PGE2 levels only in peri-implantitis patients, suggesting that elevated PGE2 in PISF may serve as a biomarker for poor peri-implant health. The study highlights the potential of PGE2 measurement in assessing peri-implant disease severity but notes limitations including the use of two-dimensional radiographs and lack of treatment intervention.
