Abstract

This study focuses on the histopathological features of anterior urethral strictures and their impact on urethroplasty outcomes in 65 male patients treated at SMS Medical College. It found that lichen sclerosus (LS), a chronic inflammatory skin condition, and severe inflammation within the stricture segment are significantly associated with poorer surgical success, while inflammation in adjacent urethral segments and postoperative complications did not affect outcomes. Additionally, longer strictures (>8 cm) correlated with higher failure rates. The authors recommend incorporating histopathological evaluation into preoperative assessment to improve surgical planning and reduce recurrence, noting that further research with larger cohorts and longer follow-up is needed to confirm these findings.
