Abstract
This article focuses on taste and smell alterations (TSAs) and their relationship with quality of life among Korean women with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy. In a descriptive correlational study of 121 women, over 80% experienced TSAs, with a majority reporting severe symptoms, particularly a persistent and intensified bitter taste. The severity of TSAs was negatively correlated with overall quality of life, especially physical and functional well-being. Women living with a spouse reported less severe TSAs, and no significant differences were found based on chemotherapy agent type. The study highlights the need for nursing interventions that include education about TSAs, coping strategies such as avoiding bitter and strongly scented foods, and further research on the social and emotional impacts of TSAs in this population.
