Abstract

This article focuses on the implementation of the Female Sexual Function Index short version (FSFI-sv), a validated six-question screening tool for sexual dysfunction, at Women’s Ambulatory Health Services (WAHS), an inner-city women’s health clinic affiliated with Hartford HealthCare. The project aimed to identify patients at risk for female sexual dysfunction, defined by an FSFI-sv score of 18 or below, and offer referrals to a health psychologist specializing in sexual dysfunction. Between July and December 2022, 152 completed screenings identified 45 patients at risk, with barriers to discussion including patient hesitancy and lack of awareness about available services. The implementation expanded patient resources, improved communication about sexual health, and highlighted areas for enhancing screening and referral processes within this clinical setting.
