Abstract
The article focuses on a study examining the relationship between declines in intrinsic capacity and functional impairment in older adults. Conducted by researchers from Capital Medical University in Beijing, the meta-analysis included 15 longitudinal studies with over 53,000 participants, revealing that declines in locomotion, cognition, psychological well-being, and vitality significantly increased the risk of disability in Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL). The study found that overall intrinsic capacity decline was linked to higher ADL and IADL disability risks, with locomotion decline being a particularly strong predictor. The research emphasizes the need for further exploration of intrinsic capacity domains to enhance understanding of healthy aging. [Extracted from the article]
