Abstract
This article focuses on the genetic diversity and species delimitation within the genus *Anadenanthera* (Fabaceae), challenging the currently accepted classification of two species with four varieties proposed by Altschul. Using molecular data from 283 specimens genotyped with 12 simple sequence repeats (SSRs) and ITS sequence data from 186 specimens, the study found strong genetic evidence supporting the existence of four reproductively isolated species, consistent with Brenan's earlier four-species classification. Ecological niche modeling further indicated distinct paleoclimatic distributions for these taxa, reinforcing their separation. The findings suggest revising the taxonomy of *Anadenanthera* to recognize four species, which has implications for conservation strategies in Neotropical seasonal forests.
