Abstract

Abstract: This poem details a reflection by a nurse-mother coupled with two nursing voices of a surgical and postanesthetic care nurse when a child undergoes a surgical procedure. The nurse-mother's perspective is filled with intense emotions due to the nurse-mother's advanced knowledge, skill judgement, and experiences in the medical field. The two nursing voices detail what it is like for a nurse to support the patient and family during this difficult time. The intention is that this poem will inform educational experiences of nursing students and nurses when learning about provision of support to patients and families.
