Abstract

This article focuses on the discovery and characterization of a novel ciliate genus and species, *Heterodeviata sinica* gen. nov. et sp. nov., within the family Deviatidae, alongside a detailed study of a freshwater population of *Deviata multilineae*. Both ciliates were collected from freshwater wetlands in Northern China and analyzed using morphology, morphogenesis, and 18S rRNA gene sequencing. Phylogenetic analyses support the monophyly of Deviatidae and place *Heterodeviata* in a clade with *Deviata*, *Perisincirra*, and *Pseudosincirra*. The study provides comprehensive morphological descriptions, morphogenetic processes, and molecular data that clarify systematic relationships within Deviatidae and expand knowledge of hypotrich diversity in freshwater habitats.
