Abstract
This article investigates the effects of dietary taurine supplementation on growth, nutrient utilization, antioxidant status, digestive enzyme activity, and metabolic enzyme activity in Striped Catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) fed fish meal (FM)- and plant protein-based diets. Four diets were tested: FM without taurine (FMF), FM with taurine (FMT), plant protein without taurine (PPF), and plant protein with taurine (PPT). Results showed that taurine supplementation in both FM- and plant-based diets improved growth performance, feed efficiency, antioxidant enzyme activities, digestive enzyme activities, and metabolic enzyme activities compared to diets without taurine. Notably, the plant protein diet supplemented with taurine (PPT) supported growth and physiological responses comparable to the FM diet without taurine, indicating that taurine enables effective replacement of fish meal with plant proteins in Striped Catfish diets.
