Abstract
The article analyzes the quality of skin self-examination (SSE) videos on YouTube in comparison to recommendations from the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and the American Cancer Society (ACS). The study found that while US physicians and other content creators had similar mean DISCERN scores, there were variations in the frequency of recommendations across groups. Recommendations for monthly SSEs, consulting dermatologists for concerning changes, and discussing the ABCDEs of melanoma were prevalent, but guidance on well-lit rooms and inclusivity for individuals with skin of color was lacking. The study highlights the need for high-quality, comprehensive SSE videos that address diverse perspectives and adhere to medical guidelines. [Extracted from the article]
