Abstract
The article discusses research findings on the impact of the 2021 Texas Heartbeat Act (Senate Bill 8, SB8) on mental health among females in Texas. The study, conducted by the University of Texas San Antonio, analyzed data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) and found that the implementation of SB8 was associated with a significant increase in frequent mental distress among females aged 18 to 44 years, particularly among younger women. The research indicates that state abortion policies may negatively affect mental health, highlighting the importance of understanding these associations for public health interventions.
