Abstract

A report from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology - RMIT University in Australia discusses the use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies for managing depression. The researchers conducted a scientometric analysis to determine the global scientific output of research on this topic. They found that the number of publications on CAM for depression has been increasing, with the USA being the leading research center. The most studied CAM therapies were acupuncture and body-mind techniques like yoga and meditation. The researchers suggest that future studies should investigate the mechanisms of action underlying CAM treatments for depression and encourage cross-country and cross-institute collaborations.
