Abstract
This study investigates the relationship between e-Healthy Diet Literacy (e-HDL)—defined as the ability to find, understand, judge, and apply healthy nutrition information from electronic sources—and food consumption among individuals receiving nutrition counseling compared to those who do not. Data from 750 adults in Istanbul showed that those receiving nutrition counseling had significantly higher total e-HDL Questionnaire (e-HDLQ) scores, particularly in finding, judging, and applying e-healthy diet information. While overall food consumption frequency did not differ markedly by counseling status, consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables and sugar was associated with better judgment of e-healthy diet information, and avoiding bread and cereals correlated with higher application of dietary knowledge. The findings suggest that nutrition counseling enhances digital diet literacy, which may influence healthier eating behaviors, underscoring the value of personalized nutrition counseling integrated with digital tools for health promotion.
