Abstract
This article investigates Domestic Violence Involvement (DVI) and related gender differences among crack-cocaine users in Brazil, analyzing data from 780 individuals across six Brazilian capitals. The study found no significant difference in DVI prevalence between men and women; however, users with DVI experienced higher rates of victimization, impulsivity, physical aggression, and involvement in violent crimes. Men reported more arrests and detentions, while women with DVI were more frequently charged with parental neglect, reflecting gendered legal and social roles. The findings suggest that DVI among crack-cocaine users may predict broader social violence and highlight the need for gender-sensitive health and legal interventions to address the complex interplay of substance abuse, violence, and parental responsibilities.
