Abstract

This article focuses on the supportive care management of cardiotoxicity associated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in pediatric oncology patients and childhood cancer survivors. TKIs, targeted cancer therapies that inhibit tyrosine kinase proteins involved in cancer cell survival, have improved outcomes in certain pediatric cancers but carry risks of acute and long-term cardiovascular toxicities such as hypertension, QT prolongation, and heart failure. A rapid review of recent literature identified five key supportive care categories: surveillance strategies, prevention strategies, cardiac medication use, collaboration between pediatric oncology and cardiology, and transition of care for survivors. The review highlights the need for standardized, evidence-based guidelines and interdisciplinary approaches to optimize cardiovascular outcomes, while emphasizing gaps in pediatric-specific research and the importance of ongoing studies to inform clinical practice.
