Abstract

This article focuses on the antimicrobial susceptibility profiles of Neisseria gonorrhoeae (GC) isolates collected predominantly from soldiers seeking care at military hospitals in Thailand between 2014 and 2020. The study found that all GC isolates were susceptible to ceftriaxone (CRO) and cefixime (CFM), the recommended first-line treatments, while resistance was high to ciprofloxacin, tetracycline, and penicillin. A small number of isolates showed non-susceptibility to azithromycin (AZM) and cefepime (CPM), a fourth-generation cephalosporin. The findings support the continued effectiveness of dual therapy with CRO and AZM in this population but highlight the need for ongoing surveillance due to concerns about self-medication, confidentiality-related treatment-seeking behaviors, and the potential emergence of multidrug-resistant GC strains in Thailand.
