Abstract

This article focuses on a single-center randomized clinical trial evaluating the use of virtual reality (VR) to reduce anxiety and pain during in-office vasectomy performed under local anesthesia. The study compared standard vasectomy without VR to static VR and interactive VR interventions using the SmileyScope device, measuring patient-reported pain, anxiety, and heart rate. Interim results from 58 men showed no significant difference in pain or heart rate variability but indicated that VR use significantly lowered pre-procedure anxiety. These findings suggest that VR is a feasible and safe method to alleviate anxiety associated with vasectomy, potentially improving patient experience.
