Abstract

The article provides information on Lynch Syndrome, now referred to as hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC). The disease is associated with germline pathogenic variants in the MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, PMS2 and EPCAM genes, and it increases patients' risk for developing a variety of cancers. Management of HNPCC patients involves more intensive screening behaviors and risk-reducing surgery than are usually recommended for the general population.
