Abstract
The University of Parma conducted research on the relevance of the evolutionary approach in understanding health and disease of the human body and mind, particularly in the fields of medicine and psychiatry. The study highlighted the importance of applying evolutionary principles such as historical contingencies, mismatches, trade-offs, sexual selection, and genomic conflict to address medical and psychiatric issues. The lack of interdisciplinary collaboration and integration of evolutionary principles in medical school curricula were identified as barriers to the widespread adoption of this approach. The research concluded that a Darwinian approach is essential for developing an evolutionary epistemology to study human health and diseases. [Extracted from the article]
