Abstract
This article presents a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) examining the effect of daily coffee consumption on resting heart rate (HR), an important indicator of health and disease risk. Analyzing data from six RCTs involving 485 generally healthy adults consuming 3 to 6 cups of coffee daily over 2 to 24 weeks, the study found no statistically significant change in resting HR attributable to coffee intake. Subgroup analyses considering factors such as age, sex, health status, caffeine content, and habitual coffee consumption also showed no significant effects. The authors note limitations including the small number of eligible trials, variability in coffee types, and short intervention durations, recommending larger and longer-term studies to confirm these findings.
