Abstract
This article evaluates the quality, reliability, and readability of English-language websites providing information on the use of botulinum toxin (botox) for treating bruxism, a condition involving unconscious teeth grinding. Analyzing 130 websites categorized as Internet blogs, doctors’ sites, and private medical clinics, the study found that overall information quality was moderate but often difficult to read, with an average Flesch Reading Ease Score indicating fairly difficult text. Internet blogs scored higher in reliability and compliance with authorship and currency standards (JAMA benchmarks) than other groups, yet only one website displayed the Health on the Net (HON) code, a certification for trustworthy health information. The findings suggest a need for professional guidelines and regular oversight to improve the accuracy, transparency, and accessibility of online content about botulinum toxin treatment for bruxism.
