Abstract

This article focuses on assessing the knowledge and practices related to ocular injury first aid among primary school teachers in Qassim Province, Saudi Arabia. The cross-sectional study surveyed 986 teachers and found that 67.3% had witnessed ocular injuries in students, primarily eye trauma and foreign bodies. Significant gaps were identified in teachers’ understanding and management of chemical burns, lacerations, and scratched eyes, with only about half seeking medical help promptly. The findings underscore the urgent need for targeted educational interventions and the integration of ocular injury first aid training into teachers’ professional development to improve student safety and prevent vision impairment.
