Abstract

This article focuses on evaluating the implementation of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) 3B Scheduled Rounding Protocol to reduce fall rates among adult inpatients with cancer on two oncology units. Using a quasi-experimental design, the project found a clinically significant decrease in average daily fall rates post-intervention, although results were not statistically significant due to a limited sample and timeframe. Nurses reported positive perceptions of the protocol’s usability and its role in increasing awareness of fall risks and patient safety. The study suggests that standardized fall prevention protocols addressing patients’ physical and psychological needs can reduce inpatient falls across a broad adult oncology population, while noting limitations including sample size, setting, and lack of control group.
