Abstract

This article focuses on the development of the Hellenic Risk Assessment Instrument, a tool designed to evaluate domestic violence incidents for recidivism and lethality, with particular application to the Greek police. The tool aims to be used across all frontline national agencies handling domestic violence reports, including health, police, social services, and victim support networks. The development involved analyzing data from the Hellenic Police's specialised domestic violence department collected between January 2019 and July 2021, examining variables related to perpetrators, victims, and incidents. Additionally, focus groups with police officers from various divisions provided expert insights to refine the tool's parameters and assess its effectiveness. The resulting preliminary risk assessment tool is intended to support coordinated, evidence-based responses to domestic violence in Greece.
