Abstract

This article investigates the effects of cinnamon nanoparticles (CNPs) loaded onto chitosan-gelatin nanoparticles (CGNPs) on burn wound healing in diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) using a rat model. Sixty male diabetic rats were divided into four groups receiving treatments of normal saline, silver sulfadiazine ointment, CGNP-based ointment, or CNP-CGNP nanocomposite ointment. The study found that topical application of CNP-CGNPs significantly accelerated wound contraction, enhanced antioxidant enzyme activities, promoted angiogenesis, increased fibroblast proliferation, and improved collagen deposition compared to other treatments. Molecular analyses showed upregulation of apoptosis-related genes (caspase-3, Bcl-2, and p53), suggesting enhanced regulation of inflammation and cell proliferation. These findings indicate that CNP-CGNP nanocomposites may offer a promising approach to improve burn wound healing in diabetic foot ulcers, warranting further clinical investigation.
