Abstract

The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, a nonprofit provider of addiction and mental health care, has doubled its major gifts output by implementing an outside sales support model. The foundation now assigns a development services officer to handle the back-end work and support the major gift officers. This centralized approach has led to more engaged donors, higher gift amounts, and an increase in weekly donor visits per relationship manager. The foundation emphasizes the importance of building internal relationships and finding the right chemistry between development services officers and relationship managers.
