Abstract

This article focuses on factors influencing acceptance of COVID-19 vaccine booster doses among patients with autoimmune and rheumatic diseases (ARDs) in Japan, based on a single-centre cross-sectional survey at St. Luke’s International Hospital. Among 241 outpatients surveyed, 82.2% had received booster doses (defined as three or more doses), with older age, having rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and receiving a physician’s recommendation identified as independent factors associated with booster acceptance. The main reasons for booster hesitancy included concerns about adverse reactions and long-term safety. These findings highlight the role of physician guidance and patient characteristics in vaccine decision-making among ARD patients and may inform strategies to improve booster uptake in this vulnerable population.
