Abstract
This article focuses on the role of super-enhancers (SEs) and related transcription factors in regulating metastasis in tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC). The study identifies that SE-associated genes are enriched in ameboidal-type cell migration pathways, with the matrix metalloproteinase gene MMP14 (encoding MT1-MMP) being a key target. Transcription factors BATF and ATF3 were found to antagonistically regulate MMP14 expression by switching interactions with SE regions, influencing TSCC cell migration and patient survival outcomes. These findings suggest that SEs and their regulatory networks may serve as potential therapeutic targets for controlling TSCC metastasis.
