Abstract

This article focuses on the multidisciplinary management of a 14-year-old girl who unintentionally swallowed a plastic fork that became lodged in her proximal esophagus, obstructing the airway and making intubation impossible. Due to the fork's position and the patient's full stomach, the clinical team opted for removal via direct laryngoscopy under sedation while maintaining spontaneous respiration, avoiding general anesthesia and rapid-sequence intubation. The case highlights the importance of individualized, careful planning in foreign body removal from the aerodigestive tract, considering both patient-specific factors and foreign body characteristics to ensure safe and effective treatment.
