Abstract
This article examines the role of psychological trauma and chronic stress in contributing to halitosis (bad breath), highlighting how emotional factors such as anxiety, guilt, and trauma-related digestive issues can exacerbate the condition. It discusses how trauma can reduce salivary flow, increase mouth breathing, and disrupt gut health, all of which may worsen halitosis. The article also explores trauma-focused hypnosis as a therapeutic approach to address underlying emotional causes by reducing stress, improving breathing habits, enhancing digestive function, and promoting self-care behaviors. Dental professionals are encouraged to consider trauma-informed care and referrals for hypnosis to support patients with stress-related halitosis and foster long-term oral health.
