Abstract
The article focuses on two main studies related to medical diagnostics in Egypt. The first study evaluates serum eosinophil-derived neurotoxin (EDN) as a biomarker for eosinophilic inflammation in pediatric patients with bronchial asthma and preschool wheezes, finding significantly elevated EDN levels correlated with eosinophilia and type 2 airway inflammation. The second study investigates the prevalence of germline BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene mutations among Egyptian female breast cancer patients, reporting no detected mutations in the examined cohort. These findings highlight EDN’s potential utility in asthma screening and suggest a low prevalence of common BRCA1/2 mutations in the studied Egyptian breast cancer population.
