Abstract

The article focuses on various studies presented at the 2024 BAETS Annual Meeting, highlighting advancements in the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid and parathyroid conditions. One study developed the UK's first patient decision aid for low-risk differentiated thyroid cancer, enhancing shared decision-making. Another systematic review identified significant risk factors for thyroid cancer in patients with thyroid nodules, while a feasibility study explored the use of diffuse reflectance spectroscopy for real-time differentiation of benign and malignant thyroid tissues. Additional studies examined the effectiveness of intraoperative tools and techniques, such as tranexamic acid in reducing bleeding during thyroid surgery and the use of HoloLens technology for parathyroid adenoma localization.
