Abstract

The article focuses on the evaluation of cognitive changes in elderly patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) compared to cognitively intact individuals over a six-month period. In a case-control study involving 160 elderly patients from Ain Shams University hospitals, significant declines were observed in specific cognitive domains—such as executive function, orientation, attention, recall, and language—in the MCI group, while no significant changes occurred in the cognitively intact group. Cognitive assessment tools used included the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MOCA), Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), and Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR) scale. The findings highlight the progression of cognitive impairment in MCI patients within a relatively short follow-up period.
