Abstract
This article investigates the association between maternal human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and the risk of neurodevelopmental disorders, specifically attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD), in their offspring. Using data from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database, the study found that offspring of mothers with HPV infection had a significantly higher risk of developing ADHD, with this risk present when the infection occurred before or during pregnancy, particularly in the first and third trimesters. No significant association was observed between maternal HPV infection and ASD in offspring. The findings underscore the importance of preventing and treating HPV infection in women before and during pregnancy to potentially reduce the risk of ADHD in their children.
