Abstract

This study focused on assessing postpartum depression, fear of COVID-19, and perceived social support among mothers with and without COVID-19 infection during the perinatal period in Tunisia in 2021. Results from 140 mothers showed a significantly higher prevalence of postpartum depression in COVID-19-positive mothers (90.4%) compared to COVID-19-negative mothers (77.6%), while fear of COVID-19 levels were similar between groups. Mothers affected by COVID-19 reported significantly lower availability of social support, although satisfaction with support did not differ. The findings suggest that integrating mental health services into maternal and child health care could help address psychological distress and enhance support for new mothers during pandemics.
