Abstract
The article focuses on a study examining the relationship between visuomotor processing (VMP) and emotional intelligence (EI) in euthymic bipolar disorder (BD) patients compared to healthy controls. Conducted by researchers from National Cheng Kung University and Academia Sinica in Taipei, Taiwan, the study involved 84 euthymic BD patients and 73 healthy controls, assessing VMP through a joystick-based tracking task and EI using the Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT). Findings revealed that BD patients had significantly lower visuomotor accuracy and slower motor learning, along with impairments in the strategic EI domain. The research suggests that understanding the interplay between VMP and EI could lead to targeted interventions to improve both motor and social-cognitive functions in BD patients.
