Abstract
The article discusses research findings on non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) and its relationship to suicide attempts, emphasizing the importance of effective treatments for individuals at risk. Conducted by the Institute of Living in Hartford, Connecticut, the study analyzed the impact of adding Brief Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Suicide Prevention (BCBT-Inpatient) to standard treatment on NSSI occurrences among participants with a history of suicide attempts. Results indicated that fewer participants receiving BCBT-Inpatient engaged in NSSI during their inpatient stay compared to those receiving treatment as usual, and improvements in distress tolerance were associated with the absence of NSSI. The research highlights the potential of BCBT-Inpatient to reduce self-harm behaviors and improve distress tolerance as a treatment mechanism. [Extracted from the article]
