Abstract

The text discusses the increase in opioid use disorder (OUD) rates among older Medicare beneficiaries in US counties, particularly since 2010, due to factors like aging-related health challenges and social risk factors. The study explores the relationship between social vulnerability and OUD rates among older adults, finding that SVI is positively associated with OUD rates. The findings suggest that the OUD rate has risen since 2011, especially in more vulnerable counties, and policy implications include the need for educational programs, MOUD accessibility, and encouraging the use of SBIRT services among older adults. The study highlights the importance of addressing OUD disparities among older adults and ensuring they receive appropriate care. [Extracted from the article]
