Abstract
This study investigates the association of the monocyte-to-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (MHR) with peripheral artery disease (PAD) and long-term mortality using data from the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 1999 to 2004. Findings indicate that elevated MHR is independently associated with an increased risk of PAD, particularly among older adults and females. Additionally, higher MHR predicts greater long-term mortality risk in female PAD patients but not in males, suggesting a sex-specific prognostic value. These results highlight MHR as a potential biomarker reflecting inflammatory and lipid-related processes in PAD and its outcomes within the U.S. population.
