Abstract

This article discusses research involving over 1,800 U.S. workers showing that while extroverts are often perceived as more passionate about their jobs than introverts, both groups report similar levels of enthusiasm. Managers tend to rate extroverts as more passionate due to their more overt expressions, potentially disadvantaging introverts in career development. To address this bias, researchers recommend that managers learn to recognize and value the more subdued ways in which introverts demonstrate their passion.
