Abstract

This article focuses on the relationship between Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptom severity and performance on the Test of Memory Malingering (TOMM) in a sample of clinically referred veterans without neurocognitive disorders. The study found a significant negative correlation between PTSD symptom severity, measured by the PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5), and TOMM Trial 1 scores, indicating that higher PTSD symptoms were associated with poorer TOMM performance and increased likelihood of test failure. These results suggest that PTSD symptoms may affect the validity of neuropsychological assessments, supporting recommendations for trauma-focused treatment prior to formal cognitive testing in veterans.
