Abstract
This article focuses on a clinical psychologist and a Peer Support Worker’s reflections on an adventure therapy project involving sailing for people who have experienced First Episode Psychosis (FEP). The week-long voyage, organized in collaboration with The Cirdan sail training organization, engaged eight service users in learning sailing skills aboard the vessel Faramir, promoting recovery through experiential outdoor therapy. Participants faced physical and emotional challenges in a confined, moving environment, which fostered trust, social connection, and personal growth, culminating in the awarding of Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Start Yachting certificates. The project highlights the potential benefits of alternative therapeutic approaches, such as adventure therapy, in supporting social inclusion, skill development, and confidence among individuals recovering from psychosis.
