Abstract

This article reports on a study from Islamic Azad University in Tehran, Iran, investigating the effects of internal and external attention on gaze behavior and skill learning in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The study involved 40 children with ASD divided into two groups focusing on either internal or external attention during observational learning exercises, with eye tracking used to measure gaze behavior. Results indicated that children in the external attention group demonstrated better motor performance and longer quiet-eye duration compared to the internal attention group. The research concluded that promoting external attention through gaze-based educational instructions can enhance cognitive-motor learning in children with autism. [Extracted from the article]
