Abstract
This article focuses on a randomized, single-blind, placebo-controlled study examining the effects of Reiki therapy on patients with cardiac diseases, specifically assessing heart rhythm, biochemical parameters, cortisol levels, and anxiety. The study found that Reiki significantly reduced blood cortisol levels and anxiety, as measured by the Beck Anxiety Inventory, compared to sham Reiki and control groups, while no significant changes were observed in heart rhythm or key biochemical markers such as sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium. The findings suggest that Reiki may serve as a complementary nursing practice to alleviate stress-related biomarkers and anxiety in cardiac patients, although the study’s short duration, single-center design, and limited sample diversity may affect generalizability.
