Abstract

This article focuses on the adaptation of LivDem, a psychoeducational group intervention originally designed for individuals living with dementia, to include couples and families affected by the condition. The adapted LivDem-families intervention consists of a manualised five-session program aimed at improving communication, emotional adjustment, and relational resilience within family units, delivered by trained facilitators. Initial pilot findings with seven families indicate high acceptability, appropriateness, and feasibility, though the emotional intensity of sessions necessitates robust risk assessment and clinical oversight due to disclosures of self-harm and harm to others. A forthcoming non-randomised feasibility study across two NHS sites will further evaluate the intervention’s integration into dementia care pathways.
