Abstract

This article examines the impact of recorded online lectures versus in-person lectures on student performance in a third-year veterinary toxicology course at Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine (OSU CVM). Analysis of written examination results from 373 students over four years (2017–2019, 2022) showed no significant difference in overall exam scores between the two instructional methods. However, for 18 identical exam questions, students performed significantly better on those derived from in-person lectures compared to recorded lectures (92.9% vs. 81.8% correct). The study highlights the need for further prospective research to optimize veterinary medical education delivery methods, considering factors such as long-term knowledge retention and clinical application.
