Abstract
The article discusses the health implications of self-silencing among women, emphasizing that societal expectations for women to be agreeable and self-sacrificing can lead to serious physical and mental health issues. Women represent nearly 80% of autoimmune disease cases and are at a higher risk for various chronic conditions, which research suggests may be linked to their tendency to suppress emotions and prioritize others' needs over their own. The author highlights the importance of recognizing emotions as indicators of unmet needs and advocates for boundary setting as a means to improve both health and relationships. A cultural shift is proposed to redefine the virtues of womanhood, encouraging women to prioritize their own well-being. [Extracted from the article]
