Abstract
This article examines the relationship between mathematical creativity and mathematical giftedness, two related but distinct psychological constructs often conflated in research and practice. Mathematical creativity is characterized by attributes such as fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration, and involves processes like intuition, heuristics, and social interaction, whereas mathematical giftedness is typically identified through psychometric assessments, academic performance, and characteristic abilities such as logical reasoning and symbol manipulation. While both constructs describe individuals with advanced mathematical talents and share some cognitive features, they differ in scope, identification methods, and the nature of their contributions to mathematics. The article emphasizes the importance of distinguishing these constructs to improve research clarity and the development of accurate assessment tools, noting that mathematical creativity may be considered a subcomponent of mathematical ability or giftedness.
