Abstract

The article focuses on the role of nurses as trusted public health advocates in promoting vaccination, particularly among cancer patients. Research from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center found that COVID-19 mRNA vaccination significantly improved survival in cancer patients receiving immune checkpoint inhibitors, regardless of vaccine type or dose number. The American Society of Clinical Oncology's 2024 guideline recommends that all adults with cancer stay current on COVID-19 and other vaccinations, with individualized considerations for immunocompromised patients. The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) actively supports prioritizing vaccine access for cancer patients and advocates for greater nurse involvement in immunization policy and research peer review to enhance cancer care and vaccination efforts.
