Abstract

This article focuses on the management of skin fragility and wound healing in Ehlers–Danlos syndromes (EDS), a group of 14 heritable connective tissue disorders characterized by joint hypermobility, skin hyperextensibility, and tissue fragility. It reviews current evidence and expert recommendations for preventing skin injury, managing bruising, haematomas, skin tears, and surgical wounds, emphasizing protective measures, careful wound closure techniques, and the cautious use of dressings to minimize further trauma. The article highlights the limited high-quality research available and suggests that expert consensus is needed to develop formal guidelines. It also discusses challenges such as resistance to local anesthetics and the potential benefits and limitations of nutritional supplements and advanced therapies in EDS wound care.
